About

Sandra grew up on a small farm in Central New York. She drove a tractor when she was five and listened to country music in an old Chevy while packing Dad's pipe on the way to town. It was the 70's. After working on the farm, she would lie in bed and write poems about nature.
As a queer teen in a small town in the 80's, she wrote very dark and sinister poetry in an attempt to work through feelings of isolation and psychological turmoil. In the 90's, she moved to Albany for school and taught a companion class on EcoFeminism after being selected to teach WSS 210: Introduction to Feminism by the Women's Studies Teaching Collective at SUNY Albany. By 2000, she was living in San Francisco, creating newsletters for the Women's Spirituality program at the California Institute of Integral Studies, where she received a Master's Degree in Asian and Comparative Studies. Alice Walker gave her class graduation commencement speech. While in graduate school, she worked for the famous A Different Light Bookstore on Castro Street, the center of queer America.
Her favorite authors are Ray Bradbury, Flannery O'Connor, and H.G. Wells. She writes horror because she believes in the cathartic properties of writing and how facing fears in a controlled environment can produce a sense of relief for the psyche. Her science fiction and dark fiction writing leans toward questioning reality and normative assumptions.
She loves fishing, kayaking, and her cats. She writes when she isn't working, taking random math classes, or walking a stream looking for trout.
